What are dentures? How many types of dentures we have & what material are made of ?

What are dentures?

Dentures are removable false teeth that fit snugly over the gums to replace missing teeth. They are supported by the surrounding of soft and hard tissue of the oral cavity.

How many types of dentures do we have?

Complete denture is used to replace a complete arch.

Complete dentures (Full dentures): are used when all the teeth from the upper and lower arch are missing.

Partial Denture are used when some of the natural teeth remain.

• Immediate denture : It's the denture that we put in immediately after having a tooth extraction. ( More details in a future post 😊).

Parts of the denture
From what material the denture is made of?

• Acrylic (Plastic)
• Flexible denture (Flexible thermoplastic material) - as you can see from the photo below, it's flexible)

• Metal (Cobalt Chrome)

Cobalt Chrome dentures are made from metal frame and acrylic false teeth . They provide more strength and durability. They can make it a lot thinner and smaller, so they won't feel as bulky as the plastic ones.

Extra :

On the acrylic denture we can add clasps. Clasp is a circumferential retainer for a removable dental prosthesis that has a cast reciprocal arm and a wrought wire retentive clasp.

* We also have the dentures that are supported from the dental implants, we will discuss more about them on PT2 😇

I do not own any rights for the photos that I used.
