What is amalgam filling?

Amalgam is a dental filling material used to fill cavities caused by tooth decay.

and from what is made of? 

It's made of liquid (elementary) mercury  and a powdered alloy composed of silver, tin and copper.

Instruments : 

On the dentist's tray :

- Exam kit's instruments (Mouth mirror,probe, perio probe,tweezers)

- Plugger or condenser

 - Spoon excavator

- Flat plastic

- Carver ( One side is flat and the other side is ponted)

 - Amalgam applicator 

- Ball burnisher (Ball shape ends)

- Bite block ( helps to keep the patient's mouth open without hurting the patient's jaw)

- Cotton Rolls

- Fast Handpiece,slow Handpiece and burs

- Articulate holder

- Articulate paper

On the dental nurse's side :

- Goggles & bib for the patient

- Suctions tip & Saliva ejector

- Needle,cartridges & syringe for the injection

- Amalgam capsules

- Dappens pot

- Amalgam carrier

- Amalgamator 

- Wooden Wedges

 - Matrix Band ( wide matrix band,narrow matrix band). 

*Wide matrix band is for molars

* Narrow matrix band for premolars

- Mixing Pad

- Mixing Spatula

- Calcium Hydroxide (two tubes • base & catalyst)

- Amalgam waste box
